William H. Sheehan III is a shareholder in the firm of MacLean Holloway Doherty, P.C. Mr. Sheehan maintains a general practice of law representing both individual and business clients, with an emphasis on civil litigation. He has successfully represented plaintiffs and defendants in a wide variety of matters including employment law, school law, contracts, real estate, construction law, zoning and land use, business disputes, discrimination claims, personal injury, product liability, and claims involving will contests and the administration of trusts and estates. His trial experience includes trials in the Superior Court, Land Court, Probate and Family Court and District Court Departments of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as well as the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts. Mr. Sheehan has successfully argued appeals in the Massachusetts Appeals Court, Supreme Judicial Court and United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit.
Mr. Sheehan practiced with the firm of Pearl, McNiff, Crean, Cook, Sheehan & Smerczynski from 1977 to 2003 where he was a partner from 1982 to 2003. Mr. Sheehan left the firm to serve as in-house corporate counsel to SPS New England, Inc of Salisbury, Massachusetts for one year in 2004. Mr. Sheehan continues to count SPS New England, Inc. among his many corporate and individual clients.
Mr. Sheehan is a graduate of St. John’s Preparatory School, Danvers, MA (1970) where he was named winner of the student athlete award and is a member of the school’s Hall of Fame; Yale University (B.A., 1974) where he was a three-year varsity letter winner in cross-country and track and a school record holder; and Boston University Law School (J.D., 1977) where he was the American Jurisprudence Award winner in criminal law. Mr. Sheehan was admitted to practice in Massachusetts in 1977, the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts in 1978, the First Circuit Court of Appeals in 1992, and the United States Supreme Court in 1999.
Mr. Sheehan is a Past President of the Peabody Bar Association and a member of the Massachusetts, Essex County and Peabody Bar Associations. He is a Corporator of North Shore Bank and is a lector and past vice-chairperson of the Parish Pastoral Council of St. Rose of Lima Church in Topsfield, MA.
